MedEd Connections Resource Guide: Blind and Visually Impaired (B/VI)
Nurse
Nurses work in hospitals and schools. The school nurse stores and administers your child’s medication (i.e. eyedrops, or prescription medications, etc.) at school. You may want to keep some medication at school and some at home depending on your child’s needs. Additionally, the school nurse performs required hearing and vision screenings for all students. If your child’s pediatrician has already performed a hearing or vision screening, then they can fill out a release form and that information can be shared between the medical and educational professionals. A release form saves unnecessary repeat screenings.
