The Outreach Center for Deafness and Blindness at OCALI provides professional development and networking at their many meetings and events. See the list below to learn more about Ohio Department of Education and Workforce updates, testing, assistive technology, best practices, resources, and more for any professional serving children who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired.

Visual Phonics Training for Ohio Educators (Fall 2024)

In partnership with Ohio Deaf and Blind Education Services, Statewide Services and Outreach, we are thrilled to offer Visual Phonics training to Ohio educators free of cost. If you are looking for ways to make phonemic awareness instruction accessible to your learners, this training is for you. Join Abby White, a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Visual Phonics trainer, to learn the Visual Phonics system and how to apply it across instructional settings. The session will be live on Zoom and is not able to be recorded. To participate, you must attend the entire session on both scheduled days. Space is limited, and a wait list will be created after the first 30 Ohio participants have registered. Upon completion of the training, certificate of attendance and downloadable Visual Phonics cards will be sent to each participant.

Family University D/HH: Accessible Fun & Relaxation for Deaf/Hard of Hearing/Deafblind Kids

Join us as we talk with parent, Tina Pudelski and her daughter about accessible fun and relaxation. We will explore strategies to improve access during extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and even leisure activities like watching movies.

VI/DB Accessible Transportation Day Event

Come Explore Transportation Opportunities with Ohio Deaf and Blind Education Services (ODBES)! Join us for an engaging session where students who are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Deaf/Blind can experience various vehicles that they might otherwise not have the chance to explore. Students will gain hands-on experience and learn about the importance of transportation accommodations while connecting with peers who share similar experiences. This event will also emphasize Expanded Skills Curriculum (ECC) and Workforce Readiness education to prepare students for their future roles in the community. Enhance your understanding of mobility options, access vital community resources, and build confidence in navigating the world around you! Please note lunch will be on your own. Journey Towards Independence- Promoting Student Wellness Through Accessible Recreation and Leisure - Part 1

Recreation and leisure activities offer physiological and psychological benefits that contribute to overall student wellness. Join Michelle as she explores kayaking, rock climbing, gardening, crafts, and more as a woman who is deafblind. Discover how sports, games, and hobbies can be adapted for students who are Blind/Visually Impaired, Deafblind, or Deaf/Hard of Hearing. There will be an opportunity for live Q&A and conversation.
