Screenings, Assessments, and Educational Evaluations for Learners who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Functional Listening Evaluation

The purpose of this evaluation is to determine how listening abilities are affected by noise, distance, and visual input in a learner’s natural listening environment such as a classroom. The FLE can also be used as a validation tool to demonstrate the benefits of hearing assistance technology. It is designed to simulate listening ability in situations that are representative of typical classrooms and other settings than cannot readily be replicated in sound booth assessment. Ohio Hands and Voices provides more information on this evaluation.
