Orientation and Mobility

An Orientation and Mobility (O&M) evaluation is conducted by the Orientation and Mobility Specialist. They will evaluate concepts including body image, positions, and environmental concepts. Development of these skills is important for learners who are blind and visually impaired in order to move safely, independently, and efficiently through their environment.

The O&M Specialist also assesses the learner across a variety of settings including their classroom, school, home, and community. During the evaluation the O&M specialist will determine the need for precane skills, cane skills, use of specialized devices, and general independent travel skills.
